A Canadian judge has ruled that giving someone “the finger” cannot be considered a crime because it is a “God-given right.”
Judge Dennis Galiatsatos of Québec made his ruling in a dispute between two neighbors. Neall Epstein was allegedly arrested after flashing two birds at his neighbor. He was charged with criminal harassment.
Judge Galiatsatos acquitted Epstein of the crime.
“Flipping the proverbial bird is a God-given, Charter-enshrined right that belongs to every red-blooded Canadian,” the judge wrote. He also berated the neighbor for calling the police, saying such an action “should not prompt a call to 9-1-1.”
