Schools (Full list of K-12 closures)

  • Please be advised that schools in the St. John’s Metro region will be closed for today (Friday, March 8) due to the forecasted weather. In addition, NLSchools St. John’s head office is also closed for the day.
  • Due to adverse weather conditions, Memorial University’s St. John’s, Marine Institute and Signal Hill campuses, including the Childcare Centre, are closed for the day today, March 8, for all faculty, staff and students.
    • Memorial University – Due to adverse weather conditions, exams for online courses that were scheduled for Friday, March 8, at the St. John’s campus only, have been rescheduled to Saturday, March 9, with the same time and room number.
  • Gander Academy, Gander Elementary, Gander Collegiate and St. Paul’s Intermediate and Lakewood Academy will be closed for the morning with an update at 10:30.
  • Due to the weather and current road conditions, schools in Grand Falls-Windsor are closed for the morning, There will be an update at 10:30 am regarding the afternoon classes.
  • CNA Ridge Road, Seal Cove, Carbonear, Clarenville, Burin, Bonavista, Placentia & Prince Philip Drive – Daycare, ATC, TRO, PPB & Employment Centres will be closed for the day (March 8). Gander & Grand Falls-Windsor will be closed for the morning. Update at 11 a.m.
  • Keyin College St Johns Marystown and Bay Roberts closed for the day. Classes will continue online.
  • The Carpenter Millwright College will be closed for the day.
  • École des Grands-Vents is closed for the day.
  • Lakecrest school will be closed for the day.
  • Corona College will be CLOSED for the morning.
  • St. Bonaventure’s College will be closed for the day due to the inclement weather.

Government Offices/Municipal Facilities and Services

  • Provincial Government offices in the St. John’s metro region will be closed for the day (March 8), except for those staff who have been advised to come in to work
  • Due to the forecasted weather, City facilities will be closed tomorrow, Friday, March 8. This includes City Hall and recreation facilities. The Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility will remain open, except for residential drop off.
  • St. John’s Waste and recycling collection for area 5 is also cancelled tomorrow, with an update on a new collection date to be made late tomorrow afternoon.
  • The 24-Hour Parking Ban outside the Designated Downtown Area and Business District will be enforced starting 7:30 a.m., Friday, Mar. 8, 2024. On-street parking is prohibited 24-hours a day until the ban is lifted. Vehicles parked on the road during this time may be ticketed or towed. An update will be issued to confirm when the parking ban will be lifted.

Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services advises the public that, due to anticipated adverse weather, all Eastern-Urban and Eastern-Rural zone community health sitesand administrative buildings that do not provide a 24-hour service, with the exception of the dialysis treatment centres located at Mount Pearl Square and Coish Place in Clarenville, will be closed tomorrow (March 8, 2024).

In addition:
• All breastfeeding support groups have been cancelled.
• The walk-in clinic at 50 Mundy Pond Road in St. John’s will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a further update to come.
• Outpatient blood collection will be unavailable at all non-hospital sites.
• In-person Doorways service will be unavailable; virtual service will proceed.

Eastern-Urban and Eastern-Rural zone hospitals, the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, long-term care facilities, and other sites with 24-hour operations will remain open, and emergency services continue to be available. An update on urgent care services will be provided, as needed. Virtual services will continue where available and other booked appointments with be rescheduled.

NL Health Services advises patients and clients to check with their health-care provider’s office to confirm that their appointment is going ahead, and reminds patients and clients that there may be delays. Individuals travelling long distances are encouraged to call ahead to make sure their appointments are not impacted by the weather. Cancer care patients who are unable to attend their appointments are advised to call 709-777-6480.

NL Health Services also reminds individuals that if they are not able to present for a scheduled appointment to notify the respective health-care area(s). General contact information is available at: https://nlhealthservices.ca/contact/.

In case of emergency: Patients with a medical emergency who require an ambulance should call 911. Those who feel they have a serious or urgent medical problem should proceed to their nearest emergency department.   • Metrobus will not be in service today
  • Due to the ongoing winter storm, Avalon Mall will be closed for the day.
  • Due to adverse weather conditions, tonight’s Newfoundland Growlers game has been rescheduled for Monday, March 11. Tickets for Friday’s rescheduled game are now valid for Monday while Saturday and Sunday remain unchanged.
  • Due to adverse weather conditions, The Rooms will be closed for the day, Friday, March, 8, 2024. Our public programs for today are cancelled.
  • Drs. Henderson, Oldford and Witte Optometrists office closed for the day.
  • ENT Consultants at 1 Paton Street will be closed for the day on March 8/24.
  • Due to weather – Priceless Treasures Daycare in Paradise will be closed for the day.
  • A&W Paradise will be closed all day

  • Due to inclement weather, there will be no Mass, Adoration or Stations of the Cross for today and this evening, March 8, 2024, at the Basilica.

  • Due to weather Hair Factory Salon and Spa will be closed for the day
  • Due to inclement weather, on Friday, Mar. 8, the Marystown YMCA & Ches Penney Family YMCA (including Child Care Centre & EENS) as well as all Pre-K and After School program sites are closed for the day
