Sometimes it’s important to treat yourself. Whether it’s something small like a chocolate bar or a bigger expense like a full-on spa day, everyone needs a pick-me-up here and there. Of course, some spend more than others, but how much do most people spend on themselves? Well, new research shows that the average young adult aged 18-24 spends over a grand a year treating themselves. A survey of 2,000 Gen Zers found that the average amount spent yearly on self-care was £681, or $1112 CAD. That boils down to $92.67 a month in Canadian dollars. Compare those numbers to those of older adults, 55 to 64-year olds spend less than half of that amount – just $464 a year. So what exactly are these young adults spending so much money on? Well some of the most popular treats include food and drink options like meals from restaurants, fancy coffee drinks, sweets, and cocktails. Whatever your preferred treat may be, 57% say spending money on fun things make them feel better about themselves, with 39% saying they feel happier after making the purchase.
