Hugh: Elon Musk Announces Daily Limits on How Many Tweets You Can See
Written by Hugh Campbell on July 1, 2023
At the very least, we can all agree that Elon Musk owning Twitter has been an adventure. Saturday, July 1st, Elon Musk announced a change to the social media platform – one that limits how many tweets each account can see per day. The changes are apparently to “address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation,” according to Musk, who also adds that the measure is temporary. So, what are the limits? Verified accounts can see 6,000 posts a day, while unverified accounts can read 600, and new unverified accounts will only be able to load 300 tweets. Many users are reporting problems with the platform today, receiving error messages indicating tweets could not be loaded. In a very strange story, maybe the strangest detail is that news outlets including CNN and CNBC say when they reached out to Twitter for a comment, they received a poop emoji in reply.
UPDATE: As of 4:16PM on July 1st, a tweet from Elon Musk has confirmed that the limits are increasing “soon” to 8,000 for verified accounts, 800 for unverified, and 400 for new unverified.
