Love letters written by a World War II soldier to his wife back home in New York City have been returned to their family after decades hiding in a wall. A Staten Island couple renovating their home found the stash of letters behind old walls they were tearing down. That was in the 1990s. Dottie Kearney read the letters and was touched by them, but only considered finding their rightful owner when she saw heirloom investigator Chelsea Brown on television. Brown agreed to help. Through the website MyHeritage.com, she identified Carol Bohlin, a resident of Vermont, as the daughter of Claude and Marie Smythe. The daughter now has her parents’ letters.
