Could Jim Carrey be returning to Whoville?

Sources say the actor has signed on to once again play The Grinch in a sequel to the 2000 Christmas film, Dr. Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Details are scarce and many are writing off the news as being nothing but rumour, but given the movie’s immense popularity, the power of nostalgia, and the fact Jimmy C’s live-action version of the beloved children’s book is the second highest grossing Christmas movie of all time, is the prospect of a sequel really all that farfetched?

Carrey did scoff at the idea of sequels to his movie some years ago, stating, “I find sequels are a function of commerce for the most part. At least the two I’ve done, they were characters I enjoyed doing, but I did find myself almost parroting myself at that point.”

Despite his feelings, Carrey has starred in his fair share of sequels throughout his career, including Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Dumb and Dumber-er.
