Hugh: People Would Rather Shave Their Head or Spend a Night in Jail Instead of Contact Customer Service

If having to call customer service is something you absolutely dread doing, you’re certainly not alone. Usually when you have to call a company it’s because something has already gone wrong, so you’re already in a negative headspace. Then add on waiting on hold, having difficulty explaining your situation, and being told there’s nothing that can be done. It’s an infuriating experience more often than not. So annoying, in fact, that a recent poll asked people what awful things they’d rather do instead of contact customer service. 30% of respondents say they’d rather do their taxes than call customer service, while others would rather go to the dentist (28%), go to the DMV (25%), and shave their head (24%). A surprising 22 percent say they’d even take spending a night in jail before having to spend time on the phone contacting support. Maybe part of the reason people are so fed up with having to call customer service is that quite often, it doesn’t help at all. The same study revealed that calling customer support only resolves the issue 46% of the time.
