Over the last few years, Funko Pop! figures have been absolutely everywhere. The small vinyl figures have become a popular collector’s item and it seems like there’s a Pop! made for every TV show and movie franchise. If it seems like there’s almost too many of them, that’s because there is. Due to a massive amount of excess inventory, Funko has decided to send $30-$36 million worth of product to an Arizona landfill. The company reportedly has so much unsold inventory that they’re renting shipping containers to hold some of it, and at this point they’ve deemed that it’s better to dump a large quantity of its figures in a landfill rather than spend the money to store them in hopes of one day selling some. Funko maintains that they continue to see strong consumer demand, but literally dumping that amount of inventory sure isn’t a great sign.
