Hugh: Cineplex Adding $1.50 Charge for Buying Tickets Online

If you’re planning on going to a movie, it’s generally a smart idea to book your tickets online so you’re guaranteed the seats of your choosing, but now the convenience will cost you a little more. Cineplex, the largest theatre chain in Canada, says they’ve introduced a new $1.50 booking fee for ticket purchases done online or through the app. The company says the move is part of their plan to “further invest and evolve [their] digital infrastructure,” including website upgrades. Now, there are ways that moviegoers can avoid or lessen the new fees. Purchases made in-person will not be subject to the fees, Scene+ rewards members will pay a reduced charge of $1 per ticket, and members of the chain’s CineClub monthly subscription plan will have the fee waived entirely.
