The United States Coast Guard held a press briefing Tuesday afternoon to offer an update on the search for the missing OceanGate Expeditions submersible “Titan” that left St. John’s Harbour on Sunday and was lost on a dive to the Titanic wreckage. Capt. Jamie Frederick shared that crews across multiple organizations and agencies within Canadian and US armed services have been working round the clock, coordinating with OceanGate who are said to be leading the search efforts.

So far, 7600 square miles have been searched, both on the ocean’s surface and below the surface, using air and seacrafts, using sight, radar, and sonar. A submersible vessel called Deep Energy, normally used in underwater pipe-laying efforts, is coordinating with the Polar Prince to search near where the Titan went below the surface. That operation is currently on-going. Capt. Frederick also said that some search operations will be coordinated out of St. John’s. It’s estimated that approximately 40 hours of breathable air are left on the Titan.

NTV News shared earlier today that five people are on board the submersible; British billionaire and adventurer Hamish Harding, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, a 77-year-old French explorer, Shahzada Dawood, and his son Suleman, members of one of Pakistan’s prominent families, and founder and CEO of the vessel’s operating company OceanGate, Stockton Rush.
