A legend of music and film, Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83. CTV News reports that her family confirmed the news that the Proud Mary singer passed away peacefully at her home in Switzerland.

Turner’s career began in the 1950’s and spanned multiple decades, highlighted by hits like What’s Love Got to Do With It?, Private Dancer, and The Best. Her acting credits included the antagonist in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Aunty Entity, and The Last Action Hero with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In 1985, Tina Turner began her North American tour in St. John’s with four concerts at Memorial Stadium, playing some of her best known hits and beloved covers, the shows being presented by NTV and OZFM.
