Canadian Jeopardy! superstar Mattea Roach has advanced to the finals of the Jeopardy Masters tournament. The series among the show’s recent super-champions saw the Cape Breton native compete alongside others like Amy Schneider and James Holzhauer, where they finished second and third on last night’s edition to book a spot in the tournament final. They will face Holzhauer and Matt Amodio, who won 38 consecutive games and is the third-highest earner in the show’s history.
During the episode, Roach shared news of their father’s passing earlier this month from a brain aneurysm.

In an extended thread on Twitter, the 23-game winner shared that they wanted to pay tribute to their father because he was their subject in the first Jeopardy! anecdote they shared, and also because they found out that he had passed during production of the show. Roach went on to share a photo of their father on Reach For the Top in 1983.
