Hugh: Zellers Continues Teasing a 2023 Return

In 2023, nostalgia sells and Zellers is here for it. The iconic Canadian department store made a bit of a comeback last year with a pop-up shop inside a Hudson’s Bay store in Burlington, Ontario, and after its success launched a website with the message, “Yep, it’s true. See you soon!” Now, the brand is continuing to tease Canadians with a series of Instagram posts showing various items, including toys, clothes, kitchenware, and pet supplies. Captions that accompany the posts include “See you in 2023,” and “BRB…stocking up,” indicating that Zellers could be making its return sooner rather than later. As far as what a Zellers comeback will look like, keen eyes will notice a line on their website that reads, “online and at select Hudson’s Bay stores.” I don’t think it would be surprising Zellers only returned with an online store and a value-based section inside Hudson’s Bay locations similar to last year’s pop-up shop. Of course, if the physical return of the brand is limited to certain Hudson’s Bay stores, that would mean we won’t see one in Newfoundland and Labrador. We’ll have to wait and see.
