This afternoon, acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Rosann Seviour held a media briefing to discuss COVID-19 vaccination for children in our province. As of August 1st, Newfoundland and Labrador will begin the process of vaccinating children between 6 months and 5 years of age. Parents can book appointments using the province’s COVID-19 website and Seviour says that regional health authorities will be adding vaccination spots day by day, so if you don’t see any openings in your area, check back because more will be added. Public health authorities will be the ones to administer the doses as pharmacies aren’t able to give shots to this age group. The vaccine given to young children will be one-quarter the amount of the Moderna SpikeVax vaccine and two doses will be administered eight weeks apart.
