Hugh: NASA has Determined the Perfect Amount of Time for a Nap
Written by Hugh Campbell on April 26, 2023
Napping can be a tricky business. If it’s not long enough you’ll feel just as tired as you did before, too long of a nap can throw your whole day off, and some people can’t nap at all. So, if you need a mid-day recharge, how long should you go down for? Researchers at NASA recently tried to answer that question and found that 26 minutes of sleep results in the perfect nap. After a 26-minute nap, you should be 54% more alert and 34% better at whatever you do next. Scientists came to this conclusion because at 26 minutes, you should go through the first two stages of sleep without entering deeper sleep that can result in you feeling worse when you wake up.
