The research suggests that music fans are buying vinyl from their favourite artists not necessarily as a way to listen to the music, but rather as a merch item to show off their fandom. With 84% of music revenue coming from streaming, it seems like the new trend is for fans to listen to music digitally, while buying physical versions of albums as collectors items or tokens.
