Sometimes when you get a craving for a food you love, nothing else will do. One American father and son duo certainly had a lot of dedication when they drove for two days to Canada for a fix of ketchup chips. Ketchup-flavoured chips are one of those Canadian curiosities that is a huge hit in this country, but isn’t even available in the United States. Rich Lieberman and his 15-year old son Jacob love taking road trips together, and on one of these trips that took them to Canada they made a quick pit stop along the Trans-Canada Highway. There, Rich spotted the ketchup chips, which he had never heard of before and picked up a bag for Jacob, who is legally blind and deaf. Ketchup chips instantly became Jacob’s favourite, and they built this year’s road trip entirely around stocking up on the flavour. So, this summer, they got in Rich’s vintage army Jeep and drove from their home in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Niagara Falls, Ontario in search of the snack. The journey took them two days, and once they arrived, they bought 40 bags, almost the store’s entire stock. There, the store’s owner heard their story, took a picture of the father and son, and their story went viral from there. Jacob now surely has enough of a stash to keep him snacking for a while. As for Rich? He said, “I have no interest in trying them.”
