There was a terrifying moment in last night’s NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after making a tackle on Bengals player Tee Higgins, later revealed to be him going into cardiac arrest. Surrounded by players from both teams, Hamlin was administered CPR and an AED, and an ambulance was later brought on to the field to bring him to a local hospital. In total, he was on the field for 19 minutes and the latest news is that he has been intubated and is in critical condition.

In a statement, the Bills said “Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment … He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”

Immediately, well-wishes for Hamlin began to flood in from all over the world, including from Bills fans, collectively known as Bills Mafia and one of the most enthusiastic fanbases in all of sports. They are also known for their charitable efforts over the years, donating to opposing players’ charities after big games against Buffalo and, this time, they and fans of other teams have shown up big for Damar Hamlin’s chosen charity. Hamlin started the Chasing M Foundation in 2020, shortly before being drafted by the Bills, with the goal of raising money for a toy drive. The charity’s fundraising goal of $2500 has been surpassed and then some, with the total at the time of this writing sitting at $3.48 Million
