A 14 year old from St. John’s with a knack for broadcasting has landed the opportunity of a lifetime with the The Newfoundland Growlers.

Seth Hyde will sit alongside team play-by-play commentator Chris Ballad this Saturday, January 7th, as the Growlers play the Trois-Rivieres Lions at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Hyde, a student at MacDonald Drive Junior High, made a name for himself in the hockey community during the COVID-19 pandemic after he began providing play-by-play for local minor hockey games for those who were unable to attend due to pandemic restrictions. From there, Hyde caught the attention of  pro sports broadcasters like TSN’s James Duthie.

Currently Hyde provides play-by-play for the Avalon Celtics U11 A, St. John’s Hitmen U13 AAA, and Pinnacle Growlers U18 AAA. He also plays for the U15 A Avalon Celtics.

Fans can stream audio from the game at NLGrowlers.com/radio.
