A company that specializes in canned tuna is offering $1 000 000 to anyone who can prove mermaids exist.

Chicken of the Sea, whose uses a mermaid as a corporate mascot, is offering up some serious cash for definite proof of the half-person, half-fish creatures.

In order to claim the reward, the potential winner would need to provide video evidence AND broker an interview between the “mermaid” and the company’s mermaid expert to ensure authenticity.

“For avoidance of doubt, aquatic animals (i.e., manatee, fish, lobsters, dolphins, jellyfish, sharks, sea turtles, starfish, crabs, octopuses, whales, seahorses, squid, swordfish, shrimp, killer whales, manta rays, otters, and oysters, etc.) are NOT Mermaids,” the official contest rules state. ” For further avoidance of doubt, mythical oceanic, lake, river, and/or water dwelling creatures (i.e., sirens, ocean dwelling spirits/ghosts, blue men, kelpies, selkies, sea/water deities of myth and/or legend (i.e., Atargatis, Sedna, Triton, Oannes, etc.)) are also NOT Mermaids.”

The company says it will also accept any “mermaid-themed images or videos” for a chance to win the much lesser, but easier to achieve reward of $2,500.
