It was announced earlier this week that the federal government of Canada is implementing a ban on the popular app TikTok on all government-issued devices, and now some provinces are jumping on board as well. The ban comes after a review was conducted into the app’s behaviour and found serious security concerns could leave users open to cyber attacks. According to a statement, TikTok’s data collection methods have substantial access to the information on your phone or tablet. To minimize the risk posed by the much-criticized app, it has been deleted and blocked from all devices issued to employees of the federal government. As this story progresses, some cities and provinces are jumping on board and putting a ban in place themselves. The growing list includes Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, Ottawa, and Calgary as places that have banned TikTok from all government-issued devices.
