Do you remember the early days of Netflix where their entire business was letting people rent movies by sending DVDs through the mail? It turns out that service still exists, but not for much longer. A note this week from co-CEO Ted Sarandos says that the company plans to no longer send out DVDs through the mail to members, a service that was run through DVD.com. The good news is that if you were looking for one more kick of nostalgia, they’ll still be shipping DVDs until September 29th, 2023. In the announcement, Sarandos goes on to thank members who have been on board for years and notes that the original DVD shipping service allowed for the first-ever Netflix Originals, with Sherrybaby and Zach Galifinakis Live at the Purple Onion. Just as a little bit of trivia, the first DVD ever shipped by Netflix was Beetlejuice, back on March 10, 1998 – 25 years ago.
