Taking place on Sunday, April 28, at the historic LSPU Hall in St. John’s, the SPARKS Literary Festival 2024 promises a day of inspiration, camaraderie and celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador’s vibrant literary landscape.

Hosted by Memorial University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of English, the festival showcases a diverse array of writers across multiple genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and theatre.

This year’s lineup features esteemed authors such as Writers’ Trust Fellowship winner Michael Crummey and Gemini Award winner Andy Jones, alongside emerging talents like Winterset Award winner Holly Hogan, Percy Janes First Novel Award winner Willow Kean and CBC Poetry Prize winner Matthew Hollett.

Throughout the day, 16 writers will participate in a series of moderated panels. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with writers directly and peruse a mini-bookstore featuring works from the festival’s authors. The day will culminate in the presentation of three prestigious literary awards: the Gregory J. Power & Jeroboam Poetry Award, the SPARKS Poetry Award and the Landfall Trust Award.

All members of the general public are invited to attend SPARKS 2024. Admission is free and no ticket or registration is required. For a detailed schedule and a complete list of featured writers, visit the SPARKS website.
