St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, September 20, 2025 – Breakthrough T1D Walk (formerly JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes) is the largest fundraising event in Canada that unites the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community across the country. It is a fun, engaging, and inspiring family-friendly event with the goal of raising $3.2 million nationally to support the most promising T1D research.
People with T1D must constantly monitor blood glucose levels and take external insulin, either by pump, multiple daily injections or pen to stay alive. And even with the most vigilant management, there are risks of potentially life-altering complications. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and — at present — nothing you can do to cure it.
The Walk is one of the longest standing fundraising events in the country, and Breakthrough T1D is excited to continue this legacy of grassroots support and fundraising at Walks across Canada, in support of the more than 300,000 Canadians living with this disease.
