Everyone is invited to a special library celebration honouring Newfoundland writer Michael Crummey, whose book, The Adversary, is the winner of the prestigious 2025 Dublin Literary Award. On Thursday June 12 at 7PM the St. John’s Public Libraries Board will host a celebration at the A C Hunter Library to mark the occasion, and to hear some words from the prize winner himself. Refreshments will be served.

“It’s wonderful to see one of our province’s most talented authors recognized at the International level,” says Librarian Bonnie Morgan, who chaired NLPL’s Nomination Committee for 2025.

At the recent award acceptance ceremony in Dublin, when the prize was announced, Crummey cited the importance of the Buchans Public Library in his formative years as a reader and writer. Libraries are often cited by authors as foundational to their craft – whether as a place to be surrounded and inspired by books – or as a place to work through their own initial drafts of book manuscripts.
