Fire forces closure of Chafe’s Landing

Bad news for anyone looking to head to Petty Harbour for a feed of fish and chips: Chafe’s Landing has been forced to close due to a fire.

Firefighters responded to a call early Sunday morning, after thick, black smoke was seen coming from the popular restaurant. Platoon Chief Mike Hall of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department notes that fighters entered the building and found heavy fire in the kitchen area. While the crew was able to get control of the blaze, the establishment suffered significant smoke, fire, and water damage.

Taking to Facebook to address the situation, the owners of Chafe’s Landing regrettably announced the closure the restaurant, but committed to re-opening in the future.

“We are committed to rebuilding and returning stronger than ever, and we will keep you updated on our progress every step of the way,” the social media post reads. “Thank you to all our loyal customers for your continued support.”
