Hosted by Memorial University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of English, the festival showcases a diverse array of writers across multiple genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and theatre.

This year’s lineup features esteemed authors such as Writers’ Trust Fellowship winner Michael Crummey and Gemini Award winner Andy Jones, alongside emerging talents like Winterset Award winner Holly Hogan, Percy Janes First Novel Award winner Willow Kean and CBC Poetry Prize winner Matthew Hollett.

Throughout the day, 16 writers will participate in a series of moderated panels. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with writers directly and peruse a mini-bookstore featuring works from the festival’s authors. The day will culminate in the presentation of three prestigious literary awards: the Gregory J. Power & Jeroboam Poetry Award, the SPARKS Poetry Award and the Landfall Trust Award.

  • 7:30 pm – 50/50 bingo with hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey mess, fries and onion rings sold throughout the night
  • fireworks at dusk and glow products

Saturday August 3rd

  • 8 am – Breakfast
  • 11 am – food booths serving fisherman’s brewis, deep fried fish, fish platter, pan fried cod, cold plates, pork chop and chicken leg dinners, baked beans, fries including turkey mess, dessert, and more.
  • 1 pm – games of chance
  • 3:30pm – 50/50 bingo
  • Music on the field by local talent
  • Tickets sold throughout the day on lobsters and other items

This year our headliners are the Masterless Men! Placentia Bay’s tradition of singing and storytelling is one of the best examples of intangible cultural heritage in the province.

Many people and events in the area have influenced the music and stories of Placentia. This festival will continue to explore some of the main influences such as the Placentia Bay resettlement program, the influence of the American presence at Argentia and the deep connection between people and place. Most importantly it will preserve and share the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Placentia Bay while presenting the vast pool of talent in our region.
