In his speech, Premier Furey noted he felt it was time for him to “move on.”

Reduce the risk of a caribou-vehicle collision by:

• Scanning both sides of the highway.
• Paying attention to caribou warning signs on roads and highways.
• Avoiding driving at dusk and dawn when caribou are more active near roads.
• Encouraging passengers to watch for caribou.
• Reducing speeds when driving at night when caribou are more difficult to see.

The team announced last night that second E.J. Harnden is leaving the rink effective immediately. 

The team is expected to announce who will be replacing Harnden in “the coming weeks”.

Stephanie Noftall, 28, Matthew Kavanagh, 41, and Terry Cole, 34, were arrested on Saturday evening by the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit.

An investigation into the trio started following a vehicle fire in Bay Roberts on September 30th. Once the blaze was extinguished, authorities discovered human remains. The death would later be deemed suspicious by the RCMP and ruled a homicide.

Saturday, the RCMP, along with the Explosive Disposal Unit, surrounded a home in Harbour Grace. Following a brief standoff, the aforementioned individuals were arrested and charged with first degree murder.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of Tim Horton’s on L.T. Stick Drive in Bay Roberts between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on September 30th.

The New Jersey Devils have signed the restricted free agent to a three-year, $12 million contract.

The new deal will carry a cap hit of $4 million.

The 22-year-old Carbonear native posted 20 goals and 33 points in in the 2023-2024 season.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) had a busy afternoon late last week.

Over a 2 hour period on Friday, Operational Patrol Services and RNC Traffic Services issued 32 summary offence tickets. 31 of them were for speeding.

The other ticket issued was for using a handheld device while driving.

One speeder was clocked at 140 km/h in the normally 80 km/h zone. Their vehicle was seized and their driver’s licence was suspended.

On Tuesday, Premier Andrew Furey, flagged by municipal, provincial, and federal politicians, said the government has awarded a contract to complete the highway.

The new stretch of highway will extend the current highway from Topsail Road to the Commonwealth Avenue, Brookfield Road and Heavy Tree Road area.

It is anticipated the highway will be completed in late 2026.
