Stephen: Queen to livestream Freddie tribute for COVID-19 relief

Queen will stream a 1992 Freddie Mercury concert on YouTube this weekend (starting at 3:30PM NST) to raise money for COVID-19 relief. Consequence of Sound reports that the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness took place at London’s Wembley Stadium the year after Mercury died of the disease at the age of 45. The remaining members of the band performed at the event alongside David Bowie, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Axl Rose, Elton John, Tony Iommi, James Hetfield, Seal, George Michael, and Liza Minnelli. Viewers this weekend will be encouraged to donate to the World Health Organization in Mercury’s honor. Every dollar donated will be matched by Google with a $2 donation as part of an ongoing Google/YouTube UN Foundation fundraiser.
