On Sunday at the Academy Awards, Natalie Portman made a fashion statement about the fact that all the Best Director nominees were males. BuzzFeed reports that the Oscar winner had the names of several of this year’s snubbed female directors embroidered into her Dior cape. “I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way,” Portman said. The directors whose names were embroidered on the cape included Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Mati Diop (Atlantics), Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim), Alma Har’el (Honey Boy), and Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire).
