In a media availability today, Minister of Health John Haggie clarified what he called “misinformation” on the changes to PCR test eligibility. He said that there has been no change in eligibility for receiving a PCR test if you are a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case. If the flow chart says you are eligible, you can avail of PCR testing from Public Health. This is in addition to those specific groups of vulnerable population and front line workers that were announced in last week’s eligibility update.

In response to the discussion of access to rapid tests in Newfoundland & Labrador, Haggie said that the province has distributed approximately 3 Million rapid tests to groups specified by Public Health but that NL has not followed the rest of the country on public health directives, and instead followed the advice of Public Health in our province. He also said that students in the province were given 10 tests each and they were available to be shared if not necessary.
