Stephen: Dior criticized over campaign for new fragrance called “Sauvage”
Fashion giant Dior is coming under fire for a new ad campaign, which features Johnny Depp, for a new fragrance called “Sauvage”. They’re being accused of cultural appropriation and racism for using Native American imagery for the campaign, as well as a non-Indigenous actor, and many have called into question the name specifically, as the word “Sauvage” — a French word meaning “wild” — is very close to a slur for Native Americans.
What do you think? Are you wondering what Dior was thinking or think people are overreacting? Let me know on the OZ Line, 576-6936, or @OfficialOZFM on social media!
An authentic journey deep into the Native American soul in a sacred, founding and secular territory.
More to come. September 1st.
