Stephen: Daft Punk announce split
Daft Punk, the French electronic duo behind hits like One More Time and Get Lucky, have announced they have split. In true Daft Punk style, the robotic duo (real names Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo) broke the news in a video titled Epilogue, which shows them walking in a desert environment and eventually initiating a self-destruct, followed by a title card reading “1993-2021”. The duo formed in 93 and kicked off a wave of French House artists like Modjo, Mr. Oizo, and Stardust, which also featured Bangalter, and were known for memorable music videos like Da Funk, which featured an anthropomorphized dog on crutches, and Around the World, directed by then-future Oscar winner Michel Gondry. Daft Punk went on to work with The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West, won 6 Grammy’s, and received rave reviews for their score for Tron: Legacy.
