Stephen: “COVID-free” Italian town selling homes for 1 Euro
As part of a campaign called “Operation Beauty,” Cinquefrondi, Italy is offering some homes in the “COVID-free” village for one euro, according to CNN. “Finding new owners for the many abandoned houses we have is a key part of the Operation Beauty [mission] that I have launched to recover degraded, lost parts of town,” says the mayor. Despite sitting between “two warm seas” and the beach only 15 minutes away, “a whole district of my town lies abandoned, with empty houses that are also unstable and risky,” he says. Cinquefrondi requests an annual insurance fee of 250 euro. If renovations aren’t done within three years, the owner will owe a 20,000 euro fine. Most repairs are cheaper than that, the mayor says. “The door of my office is always open to anyone who comes knocking,” he says.
