Stephen: Big Papi recovering in Boston after being shot in Dominican Republic
Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was flown to Boston on Monday, after being shot in the Dominican Republic Sunday night. A native of the Dominican Republic, 43-year-old Ortiz had been in an area nightclub when shots broke out and he was injured. Surgeons worked on him for six hours in a local hospital, taking out a portion of his gall bladder to preserve his damaged liver tissue. He also has intestinal damage. The Red Sox organization offered to send an air ambulance to receive him in the United States on Monday and delivered him to a Boston hospital, where he is in stable condition. When fans discovered the athlete was back in town, dozens arrived in the area and caused a traffic jam. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady also sent well-wishes, as did former president Barack Obama.
