Stephen: Batgirl movie loses its director
Director Joss Whedon has walked away from DC’s previously announced Batgirl movie. “Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story,” Whedon tells The Hollywood Reporter. Referring to DC president Geoff Johns and Warner Bros. Picture Group president Toby Emmerich, he added, “I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?” Whedon was first brought into the DC fold to take over last year’s Justice League, when director Zack Snyder was sidelined due to a family tragedy. He signed on to helm Batgirl in March 2017, with hopes of introducing a companion to the female empowerment icon Wonder Woman.
