Science says your birthday could very well be your death-day.
New research has discovered you’re at an increased risk of suicide, heart attacks, strokes and falls on your birthday, statistically making it the deadliest day of the year.
After analyzing 2.5 million deaths in Switzerland between the years of 1969 and 2008, scientists concluded people over 60 were some 14 per cent more likely to die on their actual birthday.
When looking at data that suggests the risk of stroke is higher on your birthday, psychologist Prof Richard Wiseman says this could be linked to two factors.
“One suggests you eat too much and you’re getting on a bit and that causes you to die. The other is a placebo effect. You are knife-edged on death. And you kept yourself going until your birthday. You think ‘that’s it I’ve had enough I’m out of here’.”
