A first date turned into somewhat of a more serious relationship for one woman after a COVID-19 inspired lockdown came into effect.

The 30-year-old Chinese woman, identified simply as Wang, agreed to a blind date on January 6 in her hometown of Zhengzhou. The date was set to take place in her suitor’s home, however once she was ready to return home, she discovered the whole neighborhood had gone into lockdown. Suddenly, Wang found herself living with the man she just met.

China regularly seals off communities after COVID-19 infections are detected among residents. Swift lockdowns, mass testing, and extensive quarantine are all part of the country’s strict zero-COVID strategy.

Wang updated family and friends regularly from her new surroundings via social media. Many of her videos would show her surprise roommate cooking, cleaning and working from home.

As of January 13th, it is unclear whether Wang is still living at her date’s house.
