Robert: U.S. Costco stores require employees and shoppers to wear masks

Costco shoppers in the United States will soon have to make sure they have one crucial item with them if they want to enter the store. And I don’t mean their membership card.

According to the company’s website, starting on May 4th, all employees and customers will be required to wear a mask or face covering inside the warehouse.

“To protect our members and employees, effective May 4, all Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises,” the proclamation reads.

While Costco Canada has not publicly announced a similar policy, rumours and unconfirmed reports seem to indicate it’s on its way.

In the meantime, Costco Canada has recently announced they will be offering priority shopping hours from 8 am until 9 am for members who are above the age of 60 and those with physical disabilities.
