There’s a long standing theory that most modern day birds evolved from the dinosaurs. Over the course of millions of years, reptiles developed feathers and learned to fly. No doubt this turtle was hoping it isn’t too late for him to sprout feathers.

The St. Lucie County Fire District were recently called to the Florida Turnpike in northern St. Lucie County after receiving a report of an airborne turtle that crashed through a driver’s windshield.

It is believed that the turtle was struck by a semi truck on the highway and sent flying into the air.

“Both driver and turtle were unharmed,” the fire district said. “The turtle was released safely.”
