Theatre goers need not to look to Toronto to catch Come From Away on stage.
Mirvish Productions has announced the curtain has fallen on the Toronto production of the award winning musical, citing financial difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,
The show, which had just recently returned to performing following a 21 month hiatus due to the pandemic, was forced to cancel fur shows on December 23rd after some of the backstage crew tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Initially the plan was to resume after a short break, but Mirvish ultimately made the decision to shut down production entirely.
“During this short break, it became bluntly apparent that it would be impossible to continue when this incredibly contagious variant has sent case numbers soaring,” David Mirvish says. “It is impossible for the production to take yet another extended hiatus. The costs of reopening a second time are prohibitively high and risky. We are simply out of options.”
Come From Away debuted in Toronto in February of 2018 and ran for 855 performances.
