Robert: The reason why hot dogs and buns come in unequal packaging

Earlier this week, Heniz launched a petition asking for hot dogs and buns be packaged in equal numbers. The fact they aren’t has confused consumers for years, and it only seems logical that the situation be rectified.

Buy why are they packaged in unequal numbers to begin with?

According to the National Hot Dog Sausage Council, (Yep. That’s a thing) the reason is simply because of the way these things were sold years ago.

“Sandwich rolls, or hot dog buns, most often come eight to the pack because the buns are baked in clusters of four in pans designed to hold eight rolls,” the council explains. “While baking pans now come in configurations that allow baking 10 and even 12 at a time, the eight-roll pan remains the most popular.”

As of this publication, the Heinz petition demanding a change has garnered 17 000 signatures.
