Robert: Teddy Purcell gets tryout with the Bruins

Pro hockey star and St. John’s native, Teddy Purcell could be wearing black and gold as the NHL prepares for the start of a new season. Yesterday afternoon, Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced via the Bruins twitter page that the former Tampa Bay Lightning forward has been extended a PTO (professional tryout) with the team.

While a PTO doesn’t guarantee a spot on the team’s roster, it does bode well for Purcell’s future prospects.

Purcell began his NHL career as a member of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2007-08 season. He would remain in LA until 2010, where he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning. From 2014 onward, Purcell would don the jerseys for the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers, before returning to his original club in 2016 and opting for free agency ahead of 2017-2018 season.
