Robert: Taylor Swift donates $113 000 to fight Anti-LBTGQ legislation

Taylor Swift is not afraid to put her money where her mouth is. The singer/songwriter is taking a political stand by supporting a LGBTQ advocacy group in her home state of Tennessee in the form of $113 000.

The Tennessee Equality Project has been actively fighting a series of bills in the state, including one that permits adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples based on religious beliefs. Another bill would add bathrooms and locker rooms to a list of public places where someone can be charged with indecent exposure, which many believe will lead to discrimination against transgender individuals. A third bill will make it the state’s policy to defend marriage as being strictly between one man and one woman.

“I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee faith leaders standing up against the ‘State of Hate’ in our state legislature,” Swift said in a handwritten letter to the group. “Please convey my heartfelt thanks to them and accept this donation to support the work you and those leaders are doing.”
