Robert: “Shrek” is getting the reboot treatment

It looks like everyone’s favourite big, green ogre is getting a reboot.

Sources says Chris Meledandri, founder and head of the studio behind Despicable Me, is interested in not only bringing Shrek and is friends back to the big screen, but would also like to reboot the entire series as a way to freshen up the story and introduce the characters to a whole new audience.

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri said. “The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels.”

Obviously fans of the original Mike Myers-voiced films are not quite sure how to feel about a new take on the narrative, but Meledandri remains confident. “There’s a tremendous amount of fun to be had in that world, but it’s a high bar to find a story that’s truly [the] world.”
