Robert: People who decorate early for Christmas are happier, study says
Every year it’s a debate over when it’s appropriate to start decorating for Christmas. Some people wait until December, some long before then. But maybe, just maybe, those who start decking the halls early are on to something.
According to psychoanalyst Steve McKeown, people who jingle the bells and dash through the snow ASAP are generally more excited by life. McKeown adds that the nostalgia associated with getting all the decorations out takes us back to the days when we were kids, and didn’t have the stress that comes along with adulthood. “In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of their childhood.”
McKeown also says that people who like to cover the outside of their house in Christmas lights and decor are perceived as being ‘friendly and cohesive’ in the eyes of others.
Of course, how you decide to celebrate the holidays and when is entirely up to you. There is no right or wrong way to do so. In the end, you do you, and be happy about it.
