Michael J. Fox is stepping away from the big screen.

According to sources, the Canadian actor’s declining health as the reason for the decision.

“There is a time for everything, and my time of putting in a twelve-hour workday, and memorizing seven pages of dialogue, is best behind me,” Fox says. “At least for now … I enter a second retirement. That could change, because everything changes. But if this is the end of my acting career, so be it.”

Fox was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at age 29. He went public with his diagnosis in 1998. He would take a step back from acting shortly after the announcement, making sporadic guest appearances in a number of shows, as well as a starring role in the Michael J. Fox Show in 2013.
