The undisputed king of building blocks is making a change in order to be a little more environmentally conscious.
In a statement, LEGO described a new type of brick prototype created from discarded plastic bottles. The company explains that on average, a one-liter bottle provides enough raw material for ten of these Lego bricks.
“We know kids care about the environment and want us to make our products more sustainable,” said VP of Environmental Responsibility, Tim Brooks. “Even though it will be a while before they will be able to play with bricks made from recycled plastic, we want to let kids know we’re working on it.”
Lego says its team will continue to carry out tests and assess whether to move to the pilot production phase.
