Robert: Instagram introduces new technology to fight cyber-bullying

Instagram is doing their part to help fight cyber-bullying. The social media platform said it has started using a new machine learning technology that can proactively detect bullying in photos and captions. Posts flagged for bullying will then be sent to Instagram’s Community Operations team for review.

“Online bullying is complex, and we know we have more work to do to further limit bullying and spread kindness on Instagram,” head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri said in a blog post.

According to a spokesperson for Instagram, the technology can detect bullying and harassment including attacks on a person’s appearance, character and threats to someone’s well-being or health. Earlier this year, Instagram announced it would filter out bullying comments used to harass or upset users. Starting this week, the bullying comment filter will also apply to Live Videos.
