Robert: Iceberg Alley staying in St. John’s

Organizers of the Iceberg Alley Music Festival announced earlier this month that they were thinking about packing up their big, blue tent and moving from St. John’s to Mount Pearl. But plans have since changed it seems as St. John’s City Council announced last night that the multi-day concert will be staying put for the next three years.

St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says the city and organizers have agreed on a new three year deal after council voted in favor of the new deal.

He also explains that he and City Councilor Hop Jamieson will be working to address concerns raised by residents of the Quidi Vidi area regarding the noise levels during the 11 day festival. He continues by noting that the concert does fall within the appropriate noise levels as stipulated by City by-laws.

“It’s important for cities to have events like this. They attract people to the city, they attract business,” Mayor Breen said to NTV News. “The city needs activities for people to do.”
